WHALE ISLAND — Thea Stilton, bestselling author and sister of the world-famouse journalist Geronimo Stilton, is best known for her mystery novels recounting the crusading environmental activism of her young journalistic proteges, known as the Thea Sisters. After selling more than 6,000,000 copies, Stilton has inked a deal with Papercutz, the children’s graphic novel publisher, to adapt some untold tales into comics just in time for Earth Day.
“When I first met Colette, Violet, Pamela, Nicky, and Paulina in my journalism class at Mouseford Academy, I knew they were something special,” Stilton said. “Reading about how they unravel these mysteries is really inspiring.”
In the first volume, “The Secret of Whale Island,” the Thea Sisters investigate the menacing appearance of a killer whale off the coast of their island home. When the intrepid student journalists dig deeper, they uncover a much bigger mystery that may involve a corporate conspiracy and a host of endangered species.
“When we were first read Thea Stilton’s gripping novels about the Thea Sisters we knew they would make a great graphic novel series,” Papercutz Publisher Terry Nantier said. “On environmental issues, these stories are enlightening and inspiring, but they’re great reads, as well.”
THEA STILTON #1: “The Secret of Whale Island,” the first full-color 56-page graphic novel, releases this Wednesday, followed by THEA STILTON #2: “Revenge of the Lizard Club” on August 14. The series is licensed by Atlantyca Entertainment, IP holder and manager for all of the Geronimo Stilton brands.
Popular with reluctant readers and gifted readers alike, Papercutz graphic novels cover a wide range of genres, reading levels, and favorite characters including The Smurfs, LEGO® NINJAGO, Geronimo Stilton, Nancy Drew, and many more. Papercutz is proud to be the largest standalone publisher exclusively dedicated to children’s graphic novels, with books available at all major retailers, bookstores, and comic book stores, and e-books available on comiXology and all e-reader devices.
