New York, NY — “Mask of the Sensei,” the second volume in the top-selling LEGO® NINJAGO graphic novel series from Papercutz, shot to the top of the New York Times Paperback Graphic Book Best Seller list immediately upon release last week. A first for Papercutz, the premier publisher of graphic novels for children, and a rarity for children’s comics generally, the achievement caps off a fever that has been building around LEGO NINJAGO since the series debuted with a sell-out 190,000-copy first printing last fall.

“It’s no surprise to me that this series, based on the great characters created by the LEGO Group, is a big hit,” said Jim Salicrup, Papercutz editor-in-chief. “I know that the toys have sold out at every store I’ve been to, so it’s clear that there’s a huge audience hungry for more. Now those fans have helped land LEGO Ninjago and Papercutz on the world-famous New York Times best seller list, as well!”

In LEGO NINJAGO #2: Mask of the Sensei, the four inseparable ninja friends, Cole, Zane, Jay, and Kai, are attacked by the one foe they can’t possibly hope to defeat, their respected teacher and friend Sensei Wu. Written by Greg Farshtey, author of the popular BIONICLE graphic novels, and illustrated by Paulo Henrique, the books bring LEGO Ninjago toys to life in a fun, easy-to-read format. The adventures continue in a Cartoon Network animated series and the massively multi-player online game, “LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.”

The LEGO NINJAGO graphic novels – each 64 pages, full-color, and 6”x9” – are priced at $6.99 ($10.99 in hardcover) and are available at all major retailers, bookstores, comic book stores, and digitally on Comixology. LEGO NINJAGO #3: Rise of the Serpentine will officially release on May 8, 2012.
