Feeling Adventurous?

Whenever summer rolls around I always get a little spring in my step, so to speak. With June having just begun, I felt it was a great opportunity to post a blog entry about CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #10 “Cyrano de Bergerac”!

This is one of my favorite plays adapted by one of my favorite artists.  If you like action, comedy, and romance, this CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED edition is for you! Cyrano has been imitated many times over the years; one example that sticks out to me is Steve Martin’s film “Roxanne.” To read a review of the book, click here.

Of course, reviews are great, but comics samples are always a wonderful way to check out this adventure. Go to the Papercutz site for more info regarding Cyrano and have a look at these pages:

Jumping on to the stage of a play to protest terrible acting? Paying the price for it when he’s confronted by an angry mob? Cyrano is my kind of guy.

Cyrano de Bergerac will hit bookstores this Tuesday the 8th. We hope you enjoy it and keep stopping by the blog for more Papercutz news and reviews!

Have You Checked Out “Through the Looking-Glass”?

Hi there everyone!

This is editorial assistant Mike writing about a book that’s been out for a while and has been steadily becoming one of our most popular volumes. I’m talking about CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #3: “THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS”. It’s an adaptation by legendary comics creator Kyle Baker of Lewis Carroll’s sequel to “Alice in Wonderland and we’ve found people have had very strong responses to it. Here’s what some reviewers had to say recently:

“Baker’s expressive faces and clean linework bring to life Humpty Dumpty, the Lion, the Unicorn, the Red Queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and especially our old friend Alice.”

-Andrew ‘Capt Comics’ Smith

Scripps Howard News Service

Kyle Baker’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass blends familiar poems (“Jabberwocky”) with the protagonist’s loquacious first-person narrative and crisply colored, almost stylized illustrations”

-School Library Journal

“Baker’s loose art style reflects the mood of this world, and his characters are drawn with great expression.”

-School Library Journal (Not Yet Published)

We feel it’s a great volume for fans of Baker and Carroll. For those of you who don’t know too much about multiple Eisner award-winner Kyle Baker, he drew the cover to TALES FROM THE CRYPT comicbook #1 from Papercutz. I recommend visiting his site to learn more about him; his body of work and achievements are just too long to list here! Go to Kyle’s website for more info. Here’s a look at Kyle’s cover from “THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS”:
