A big “thank you” to everyone who came out to see us along with Rick Parker, Stefan Petrucha, Maia Kinney-Petrucha, Margo Kinney-Petrucha, Sarah Kinney, Jim Salicrup, and myself at the Papercutz booth at New York Comic-Con 2010! You may have also run into Janice Chiang and other Papercutz contributors. It was fun for everyone except, well, me! It seems that I caught a case of the black plague at Comic-Con which I am still recovering from. A panel from THE SMURFS #1 sums up my Comic-Con experience:

That’s about it! I missed Saturday because of the worse cold I’ve had in years. Lucky for me, the great writers and artists along with Jim and Tony Shenton stepped up in my absence and I am extremely grateful for their help. People went gaga over PAPERCUTZ SLICES, DISNEY FAIRIES, and THE SMURFS and we couldn’t be happier! It was a fun time, with over 90,000 people attending.

While I’m on the subject of THE SMURFS, the reviews just keep rolling on in! The response has been great and we are very pleased. Over at PopCultureaddict.com, a great overview of the first two graphic novels was recently posted. Plus, if you travel to comics&more at blogspot, you’ll find even more info on THE SMURFS. It’s smurftastic!

Lastly, it’s become more and more apparent that our fans have been using facebook a lot more and Myspace a lot less. Thus, we’ve decided to up our presence on facebook. Please, add us as your friend! We’ll have plenty of copies of TALES FROM THE CRYPT, PAPERCUTZ SLICES, NANCY DREW  and much more for Stefan and Rick to sign! NANCY DREW The New Case Files #1 just received a great review at comicsbulletin.com and the Comics Journal loves the Stinky Dead kid! It should be a lot of fun.

Another great reason to stop by our booth is to see all of the new graphic novels we have including THE SMURFS, THE HARDY BOYS The New Case Files, NANCY DREW The New Case Files, PAPERCUTZ SLICES, and TALES FROM THE CRYPT #9 “Wickeder” – featuring the return of Glugg, the Stinky Dead Kid! I’ve received so many reviews over the past few weeks I thought I should share them with you so you can see why we’re so excited about all of our new titles.

In the October issue of “Library Media Connection,” CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #7 “The Jungle” is praised for its use of color and text! Though the review isn’t online, I can tell you that the LMC says “Kuper uses dark tones to relay to the reader the visual hardships while lighter tones help the reader see what good can still happen.” You can see preview pages of “The Jungle” here.

THE SMURFS have been taking over a lot of the reviews I’ve received. For those of you unfamiliar with THE SMURFS, School Library Journal has a nice write-up to get you started. You can access the article here. The first two graphic novels have received glowing reviews from Antic Musings, Newsarama, The Celebrity Cafe , Comic Book Resources, Comics Comics Magazine, Publisher’s Weekly, and Readaboutcomics.com.  WHEW! In DISNEY FAIRIES news, “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue” was recently released on DVD. I’m happy to announce that we’ll have copies of the official graphic novel adaptation at New York Comic-Con, and that School Library Journal just published a big article on the DVD, graphic novel, and more! Associate Editor Mike Petranek here to say hello and share some exciting goings-on at Papercutz that have me jumping for joy! Not only will you be able to pick up the first two SMURFS graphic novels next Tuesday, but in three weeks the first volume of NANCY DREW THE NEW CASE FILES #1 will arrive too! With the DISNEY FAIRIES buzzing around the office (giving poor GERONIMO STILTON no chance for a cheese-break) and those little blue Smurfs always up to something, we’ve been extra busy in August and having a blast! It’s been fun sliding from one project to the next and everyone seems to be enjoying it — well, almost everyone…

So with that said, let me take the chance to share with you some news and reviews of our upcoming releases!

From Fusion Magazine to Animation World Magazine there has been a lot of buzz about our SMURFS graphic novels. I hope that you have as much fun and laughs as I did helping to edit them when you dive into these great collections of comics. I have to thank Adam Grano at Fantagraphics for doing such a great job putting these together, as well as Janice Chiang for breathing new life into the lettering and our Editor in Chief Jim Salicrup for bringing these great little fellas back!

I booted up my computer this morning to find that The Huffington Post named CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED #9 “The Jungle” one of the best graphic novel adaptations of classic books – EVER! That was a great way to start my morning! Jump over here to get more info on “The Jungle.”

A couple of great reviews were recently sent our way, and it looks like people are even more excited about DISNEY FAIRIES #2 than DISNEY FAIRIES #1! At Miscellaneous Ramblings, Tami Winbush declared “I absolutely love the covers of these graphic novels. They have sparkles and characters that I always wanted to be when growing up. How can you not want to read this?” At The Cutest Blog on the Block, Disney Fairies #2 was named one of “My Favorite Things” by the web page. We were very pleased indeed!
