Greg Farshtey

Hi all!

Hi folks,

For those  of you who don’t know me, my name is Greg Farshtey, and I am the long-time author of the LEGO BIONICLE comics, as well as the BIONICLE novels. I have been writing for BIONICLE since 2001, when it first began. The BIONCLE comic is actually the most widely circulated comic in the world, with more than 1.7 million copies going out every other month!

I have been reading comics since I was about 5 years old, but didn’t know I would ever get the chance to write one. When LEGO Company decided to do the comic back in ’01, I was not slated to write it. But I did a few pages just for fun, to see if I could do it, and showed them to  my boss. She said that they needed an approved script right away, so that was how I got the job — and I have been doing it ever since.

In future posts, I’ll share some of the inside stories of the making of the comic that fans don’t know, and let you know how work on the newest issue is going.

Until then, take care,

Greg F.

    Hi Greg,

Congratulations on the writing since Torg/Shatterzone. My son and I look forward to the movie and we have begun reading through your books. I look forward to picking up these comics at our bookstore too. By the way, I know you probably didn’t mean it, but I got a real chuckle out of the comic line: “The Storm has a Name.” I am sure Teridax looks like an old Victorian now :) . My son wants to use the Bionicles in an RPG so I think I am going to adapt MB to it.

Anyway, good luck with things, and thanks (sorry I was grumpy long ago, far away).

Hey Greg. You probably don’t have much time so I’ll keep it short. I’m a huge fan of you and Bionicle and I was curious as to the events between bionicle Glatorian issue 5 and 6. What was at the end of the maze and was Tarduk even involved, further more, what of the element lords; AND WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO CLICK?!! Just wondering and good luck I guess, and have fun with it. Farewell.

P.S.: Sorry if I’m a little late to ask. You’re a little harder to contact than I suspected!

Um, yes I have a few questions. I am a big BIONICLE fan working on a game called BIONICLE: Legends. First off, if Teridax could be trapped in protodermis, be blasted with six different elements, crushed by a huge stone door, contained in a vat and have that vat crushed, and defeated by huge armies, why would a bump on the head from a moon fragment kill him? And was it a fragment of Aqua Magna, or the entire thing? Is what Cathy Hapka wrote about the Shadow Toa canon or is what you said canon? What is the Shadowed One’s name? What about several combiners and alternate models (the 2002 titans, the 2003 Matoran, and the Piraka combiners)? Do they have any storyline significance? What happened to Lihkan’s Hau after Daxia was destroyed? Did Lesovikk really murder Karzahni?

Wow. Um I know you’re busy but would you mind visiting our fansite? Maybe say a few words? It would mean a lot to all the members. You can find me under John Avery Whitaker. The site is http://WWW.bionicle.wikia.com

Hi… geez I dont feel right talking around here, seeing that everyone says you’re busy, but I wanted to say
SO YOU’VE ACTUALLY BEEN WRITING FOR BIONICLE EVER SINCE IT CAME OUT?! I thought you like, well, I thought the books were NEW. And again, I really don’t feel right saying this since no one else did, but still I just want to say this probably means you know a LOT about these Lego stuff…? Ya. Did you actually HELP Lego create Bionicles or did you only write? Well, it IS really interesting to read about these things. Since I’m talking I’d just rather also say a few weird things. For some reason some boys in my class tease me about liking Bionicles. Well I just stay friends with them anyway. And my friend says he chases girls who don’t like Bionicles. I’m like, what the heck, that’s all of ‘em, and he says, except you, and I’m like, oh right. Those are my weird facts.

    Hi, Greg!

I would like to start out with saying that you are hands-down my favorite writer. I especially love Vezon, he’s definitely my favorite bionicle character. I wanted to ask though, I have quite a few written (and slightly — well, A LOT more gory) stories that I am making, and I wanted to ask where do you think I should o to find a good publisher? And do you have any tips for any aspiring writers out in the world?
